Rachel Langland was raised in the Northwest of England, and completed her education in Dundee, Scotland. When she was seven years old, she became a member of St. Johns Ambulance Brigade; she was part of this group until she was 21. Dr. Langland also danced until she was 16 years old. During this time, her team came in third place in the World Championships!
At the age of three, Dr. Langland decided she would follow her mother and grandmother into the medical field and become a doctor. The opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives using science and education also drew her to the medical arena. She believes that medicine is a vocation that involves lifelong learning and commitment.
“I enjoy the positive effect we can have on the quality of people’s lives through high quality care and a holistic approach to care. I enjoy building relationships with people whilst investing positively in their lives.”
Dr. Langland feels that by practicing high quality, evidence based medicine, as well as encompassing preventative care into each visit, it’s possible to avoid the poor quality of life that accompanies end-stage chronic disease. Preventative care, including health screenings, annual checkups and patient counseling, is a vital part of a patient’s health. These routine screenings allow you to take control of your health before serious issues appear.
According to Dr. Langland, success is simply working collaboratively with patients and other providers to improve the quality of life for each patient that walks in the door.
“Nobody is perfect. We have all made poor choices at one time or another in some aspect of our lives, yet it is never too late to make a fresh start and purposefully improve your quality of life and ultimately your longevity.”
Outside of the office, Dr. Langland’s priorities lie with her family and church community. She has three children that are heavily involved in curricular and extracurricular activities. A significant amount of her time is spent being involved in the lives of her children and the things they love to do. Dr. Langland believes that living a balanced life leads to a better quality of life; she does this by encompassing work, exercise, family and fun.
“I enjoy caring for the whole family for the whole of their lives and shall look forward to this. Having recently returned from Australia, one of the hardest aspects of this was leaving families that I had cared for over the last 10 years.”
